The Society for Affective Science is looking for volunteers!

Want to get some service experience in an international professional society? Meet other junior and senior scientists, and raise your professional profile? Do you want to help lead the Society for Affective Science?

SAS is looking for volunteers for four committees. Incoming committee members will be able to take the society in new and exciting directions. In some cases, volunteers may have the opportunity for leadership (chair) roles on these committees, as current chairs may step into supporting past-chair roles, as applicable. More information is below on all four of these committees.

Note that all committees require a 3-year commitment. Committee chairs are also expected to participate in occasional meetings of the SAS Executive Committee. Due to the nature of the commitment, we are soliciting expressions of interest only from individuals who hold a PhD. If you are a trainee and interested in getting involved in SAS leadership, please contact the SAS Student Committee. If you’re interested in joining a committee, please submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via the linked forms below. In addition to some details about you, you’ll be asked to provide a few words about why you’re a good fit for this committee and why you want to do it!

Please submit your EOI by Wednesday, May 22. At that time, current committee chairs will review EOIs, and will reach out to volunteers within two weeks to discuss potential involvement in SAS!

The following committees are looking for new members:

Website Committee

Members of the Website committee are tasked with maintaining and improving the Society’s new website. Prior experience managing websites (personal included) with WordPress is important. While there are ongoing maintenance and development projects, most of the workload is concentrated in the lead-up to the opening of abstract submission in August/September, the opening of registration in October/November, and the annual meeting itself in March/April. If you have questions about the committee and/or expectations, contact sas.web.requests@gmail.com.

Social Media & Digital Outreach Committee

Members of the Social Media & Digital Outreach committee are tasked with representing the Society on Twitter and Facebook, consistently posting content to those forums throughout the year, and organizing and executing special initiatives, including promoting the conference and related events (e.g., registration, abstract submission) and developing digital resources for members (e.g., a syllabus repository). Committee members coordinate their work closely with the Website and Program Committees in particular. The workload is low but requires consistent engagement throughout the year. If you have questions about the committee and/or expectations, contact eblissmoreau@ucdavis.edu.

Membership and Outreach Committee

Members of the Membership and Outreach committee are tasked with promoting the Society and the annual meeting broadly. Committee members work toward broadening the interdisciplinary and international membership of the Society through outreach to other societies, organizations, and individuals. The committee also works with the Program Committee to promote the annual meeting via emails to other societies and other means. The workload is higher in the lead-up the annual meeting, but otherwise distributed throughout the year. If you have questions about the committee and/or expectations, contact jmikels@depaul.edu.

Fundraising Committee

Members of the Fundraising committee are tasked with keeping the Society for Affective Science financially viable. The workload is flexible and relatively evenly distributed throughout the year. If you have questions about the committee and/or expectations, contact hedy.kober@yale.edu.
