Society for Affective Science Code of Conduct Statement
Equity, diversity and inclusivity are central to the Society for Affective Science’s core values and mission. SAS recognizes that scientific progress depends on the free exchange of ideas in an environment in which all participants are treated equitably and with respect, and in which lively discussions and productive exchanges are enabled. Upholding this environment means that all participants are expected to foster an inclusive, cooperative environment where all are welcomed and treated with respect, where open dialogue is encouraged, and all perspectives are welcomed. Participants are also expected to avoid any actions, speech, or social media posts that could reasonably be construed as harassing or personally disparaging. Should you have concerns or questions about appropriate professional conduct in any SAS activity, including our annual conference, please contact Michelle (Lani) Shiota, Chair of the SAS Diversity Committee ().
Conference registration fees grant access to the full in-person SAS 2023 Conference Program. Note that this does not include preconference activities.
Commitment to transparency in conference pricing. SAS is fully committed to transparency in conference pricing. SAS is committed to keeping our conferences as affordable as possible, especially for trainees, while providing quality opportunities for attendees to showcase their work, interact with others, and build their network. To deliver on our promise to the SAS community, our high-quality conference program carries costs both similar and different to those of in-person conferences: (1) the employment of a year-round administrative team that enables SAS to plan and conduct an annual conference, which upholds the value of paid labor, and reduces the need to rely on volunteerism of faculty and trainees, (2) expenses directly related to the conference, including purchasing specialized equipment, software and additional staffing for in-person and on-demand content. To continue our mission of supporting the growing fields of affective science now and in the future, SAS is striving to maintain both conference accessibility (including by offering funding opportunities for economic hardship) and the fiscal health of the society.
