Newcomer Event

Thursday, March 20 at 3:30 p.m

An opportunity to meet SAS Executive members and other first time SAS attendees in a smaller intimate gathering prior to joining the Opening Session of the main conference. Learn more about SAS and what to expect at the 2025 SAS Annual Conference. As space is limited for this event, during the registration process you will be asked to indicate how many SAS conferences you have attended previously or if this is your first SAS Conference. There is no additional cost to attend.

Student Social

Thursday, March 20 in the evening

Following the Opening Reception and first poster session, there will be an opportunity for students to connect.

Join us at the Punch Bowl Social for a fun night of games, karaoke, dartsee, shuffleboard, giant scrabble, and more! Light snacks will be provided and participants may purchase their own beverages and additional food. The fee to participate is $10 and sign up takes place during the registration process. We are unable to refund any cancellations. The Punch Bowl is approximately a 5 block walk from the hotel. Space is limited.

Networking & Methods

SAS Networking Event

Friday, March 21, 2025 (over lunch)

The SAS2025 Networking Event provides attendees with the opportunity to have an informal 45-minute event an established member of the SAS community. This year at SAS, the Networking Event includes a 15-minute joint lunch (participants will have the option to purchase a boxed lunch) followed by a 30-minute round-table meeting between a mentor and several mentees on Friday, March 21st.

Mentees will have a chance to get to know a SAS leader, who will informally share their experience, and meet with other researchers who may share the same research interests, at different levels of their careers. The event will allow us to exchange ideas and experiences about science, and various other topics such as work-life balance, career development, paper publishing or grant writing.

To participate in the Networking Event as a mentee, please sign-up for the Networking Event during conference registration. You can sign up as a mentee if your career level is: post-doc, graduate student, post-bachelors, or undergraduate student. 

Registration for the Networking Event is first-come first-served, so please sign up early.  Participants will be informed with mentor match information by mid March.

Space is limited at this event. Please note that we will do our best to assign you a mentor that aligns with your requested keywords, however, we cannot guarantee a match depending on the availability of mentors for each topic.

SAS Methods Roundtable Event

Saturday, March 22, 2025 (over lunch)

The Methods Roundtable discussion is a 60-minute session over the lunch break where a SAS discussion leader and a maximum of 9 registered attendees gather to informally discuss a shared methodological topic of interest. The goal of this format is to provide attendees interested in a topic with an opportunity to connect with each other and with an expert on that topic, whether attendees wish to further develop their existing expertise or are a novice seeking out a new area of interest. Ultimately, our goal is to help reduce barriers for attendees to informally explore new ideas with an accessible expert at the cutting-edge of a topic. Space is limited and you must pre-register.

2025 Methods Roundtable topics include:

  1. Linguistic methods in affective science
  2. Affective science approaches in young children
  3. Multivariate pattern analysis approaches to analyzing fMRI
  4. Bayesian models of emotion understanding
  5. Computational modeling of emotional states
  6. Methods for studying interpersonal emotion regulation
  7. Large language models and affective science
  8. Social network analysis
  9. Qualitative experience sampling methods

Registration for the Methods Roundtable Event is first-come first-served, so please sign up early. 

Registration for the Methods Roundtable Event is only available until January 31, 2025, which is the deadline for the early bird registration. Participants will be informed of their table/topic assignment in early March.
