The Society for Affective Science (SAS) is seeking to recruit an individual to work parttime (100 hours maximum) on an hourly basis effective immediately through March 2025 to assist with showcasing SAS announcements and supporting the work of the SAS Social Media Committee. The purpose of this position is to provide public-facing information related to SAS and to cultivate and strengthen our SAS membership base.

The position:

SAS is dedicated to supporting and fostering basic and translational research in the variety of fields that study affect, broadly defined. With this goal in mind, the Social Media Communications Assistant will help design original visual and written affect science-related content for distribution through the SAS social media outlets and will also ensure that relevant content posted to the social media platforms is represented on the SAS website. The Social Media Communications Assistant will be expected to work closely with the SAS Social Media Committee and Membership & Outreach Committee, and will be available to work year-round, with the greatest frequency of posts occurring during the months when announcements about the annual meeting are most frequent (January-March) and will be expected to attend the SAS 2025 meeting in-person.

The Society for Affective Science is committed to promoting inclusion and diversity throughout its membership. We believe that these principles are essential to the Society’s overall mission of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across multiple fields of research, as well as different backgrounds and stages of professional development. We are dedicated to the following values: (i) Maintaining a welcoming environment for all members of the Society; (ii) Leading and supporting initiatives that are dedicated to improving the representation of groups typically underrepresented in science; and (iii) Promoting policies and practices within the Society that are consistent with these values. The individual in this position will be expected to uphold these values in the posts that they generate and to avoid posting content that is unrelated to affective science or could be interpreted as offensive, controversial, or divisive.

Who should apply:

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and an interest in psychological science communication; affect science research methods; web/social media content creation and posting; tracking social media usage; and copy editing. Preference will be given to SAS Trainee Members, particularly graduate students or postdoctoral scholars, although others are eligible to apply. We encourage applications from individuals from all backgrounds, including those traditionally underrepresented in science, and aim through this position to generate and share content reflecting inclusive perspectives.

How to apply:

Applications will be accepted immediately and should include the following: (i) a copy of your CV or resume (please be sure to list any relevant social media handles), (ii) a brief 1-page statement of interest describing how your background and qualifications make you well-suited to this position, (iii) your proposed hourly rate based on your qualifications, and (iv) samples of your written and graphic work as they pertain to social media.
