Issue 6 – Conference Report

Contributed by Katie Hoemann, PhD

What an amazing time we had together this year – again in person, 459 attendees taking in the latest and greatest in affective science, the sights, sounds, and flavors of New Orleans, and (of course) each other’s company.

A special welcome and many happy returns to our 1st-time SAS-ers, who made up 50% of attendees!

The 3-day program was packed with 3 pre-conferences and 47 regular conference sessions, spanning 13 symposia, 59 flash talks, and 280 posters, as well as salons, roundtables, and methods and networking events. The students even found time to go on a ghost tour!

Program highlights included a keynote dialogue about emotion in the brain, TED-style talks on affect around the world, and the third SAS Diversity Symposium with Dr. Anthony Ong, and Dr. Maital Neta’s Presidential Symposium on how our research can ‘a’ffect change in the world. We also heard from the 2023 SAS Awards winners and welcomed President Dr. Kristen Lindquist and President-Elect Dr. Rachael Jack.

Congratulations again to the 3 winners of the 2024 Thematic Flash Talk & Poster Awards, as well as to the 10 recipients of the 2024 SAS Trainee Diversity Awards and the 4 affective scientists honored with the SAS 2024 Awards!

Huge thanks to Drs. Erik Nook and Sa-Kiera Hudson, the 2024 Conference Program Co-chairs who made this all happen! Looking forward to seeing everyone in Portland for SAS 2025.
