We are excited to announce the opening of a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor position at the USC Center for Affective Neuroscience, Development, Learning and Education (USC CANDLE), a center of the USC Rossier School of Education and housed at the Brain and Creativity Institute. This role offers a unique opportunity for a dynamic and innovative researcher to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge research that bridges educational innovation and developmental affective neuroscience.
To date, what is happening in the brain has not been firmly connected to what is happening in the classroom. The mission of USC CANDLE is to bring educational innovation and developmental affective neuroscience into partnership, and to use what is learned to guide the transformation of schools, policy, and the student and teacher experience for a healthier and more equitable society. By inventing new study methods and launching a transdisciplinary conversation about the goals and processes of education in the modern era, USC CANDLE integrates research in schools and laboratory settings, leveraging the expertise of both practitioners and scientists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to transdisciplinary research studies on how adolescents and teachers think and feel in relation to their brain function and development, physiological regulation, health, and well-being.
- Design, conduct, and analyze data from synergistic field and laboratory studies, which involves documenting live teaching and learning while simultaneously capturing physiological data, and measuring brain activities during authentic learning and teaching activities.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in cognitive/social/affective neuroscience, developmental psychology, education, or a related field.
- Developing record of relevant publications with a focus on adolescence.
- Relevant experience consistent with the applicant’s specialty.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams, youth, and schools, especially those serving low-SES minority populations, would be an asset
