The SAS2022 Speed Networking Events provide registrants with the opportunity to have virtual informal 30-minute meetings with either a more experienced member of SAS who is at the faculty or postdoc level in the field of affective science (mentor-mentee meetings) or with a colleague (peer-to-peer meetings). We hope to encourage a variety of networking opportunities that are so important for any member of our society!

While there are many advantages of virtual conferences, one element that is clearly missing is the spontaneous and occasional social meetings and networking opportunities. Not only do these encounters allow us to meet with other researchers who may share the same research interests, but also to exchange ideas and experiences about various other topics such as work-life balance, career development, paper publishing or grant writing.

We invite participants to discuss not only research related topics but all kinds of questions you, your colleagues or mentees would like to address related to work-life balance or career development. A guide for how to prepare for this meeting with potential questions will be made available at a later point.

If you would like to participate in the Speed Networking Events, please sign-up during conference registration as either mentor (for faculty, research scientists and postdocs) or mentee (graduate, post-bac, or undergrad). You will also be asked to indicate your interest in the peer-to-peer meetings. Registration for the speed networking event is only available until Monday, February 14, 2022, which is the deadline for the early bird registration. Participants will be informed with match information by:  March 21 2022.

Matched pairs can either self-arrange a private zoom-meeting during or after the conference or can use one of the three time-slots designated in the program and meet in a pre-designated area in Gather.Town. We strongly encourage that you schedule your speed networking meeting during the conference to ensure that you are able to make time for this opportunity.

Please note that we will do our best to match you to a mentor, however, we cannot guarantee a mentor-mentee match since there are usually more mentees interested in the Speed Networking Event.

If you have any questions about Speed Networking, please contact the Chairs, Andrea Samson (andrea.samson@unifr.chand Shir Atzil (shir.atzil@mail.huji.ac.il).

*This year, we encourage postdocs and research scientists (in addition to faculty) to sign up as “mentors” for the mentor-mentee meetings since their experience may be very valuable for potential mentees. Also, based on last years’ experience, we expect that a high number of graduate and undergraduate students would like to meet a more advanced member of the SAS community. Although we try to match people also based on their career level for the peer-to-peer meetings, it is also possible that more advanced graduate students will meet a relative novice to the field.
