The University of Michigan Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry is seeking a full-time Research Area Specialist Associate to serve as a Research Therapist/Health Coach on an exciting clinical trial focused on reducing high-risk alcohol use; a key factor in preventing surgical complications.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining clinical research experience and building a foundation for graduate study or careers in psychology, public health, and other related fields. The position may also offer opportunities to contribute to conference posters, scientific presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
As part of our dynamic research team, you’ll:
- Conduct health coaching sessions with participants
- Manage and monitor a mobile health intervention
- Assist in the development of educational materials and resources
- Support data collection, fidelity tracking, and quality control efforts
- Collaborate closely with the PI, project manager, and other researchers
What we are looking for:
- A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in psychology, public health, social work, counseling, or a related field
- Training or experience in motivational interviewing, health coaching, or related behavioral support
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage participants and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- 1–3 years of relevant experience (a Master’s degree may substitute for some of this)
- Comfort with independently managing day-to-day responsibilities in a research setting
